The Magic Bus for Stock Car Fans

Roaring engines rather than The Who are the background sound track for this Magic Bus.  The home of the NASBUS is next to the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre Airport, but this weekend you can expect to see it at Pocono Raceway for the Good Sam RV Insurance 500.

What's Behind the Bog

"The Bog" Sign Above the Entrance

The Bog is actually a watering hole in downtown Scranton.  The little critter in the upper right corner of the sign reportedly had a twin at the opposite corner.  Its disappearance and fate are a mystery.

The "i" in the Sky

Time, place and angle all came together on an almost totally cloudless day for me to look up at the right moment and see this "i" in the sky.

Got Milk?

This giant fiberglass cow in Wilkes-Barre is udderly amazing!  Tourists are hoofing it and coming in herds to see this unusual attraction.  The cow is named Three-O-Nina.  She is owned by and permanently pastured next to Krugel's Georgetown Deli and Beer. Her owners milk her for all she is worth as a landmark and tourist attraction.  She is quite famoos and has been featured in Parade Magazine.

The Electric City Tattoo Convention

A Conventioneer

Today was the final day of the second annual Electric City Tattoo Convention.  Tattoos are not my thing, but they are very popular in Northeast Pennsylvania and quite a few tattoo artists and shops seem to be thriving.   Since I was passing by the hotel I had to pop in for a quick look around.

Nature Love's Her Little Surprises

So I'm driving down a city street in an urban state of mind when I come around the corner, and boom!  To borrow some words from Joe Walsh, "It comes without warning, nature loves her little surprises."  This Shrek billboard promoting U.S. forests brought a big smile to my face and shifted my thoughts to a Pocono Mountains state of mind.  (Much better than an urban state of mind.)

The Pigeonator

"Hasta la vista, birdy."  There will be no pigeons poopin' on people passing under this ledge!  The Pigeonator is always on the job, keeping customers safe and sanitary.

Interesting Shoppers at The Candle Shoppe of the Poconos

I'm not sure which of these two I find more disturbing.  The damsel with demonic eyes in the tower?  Or, the overgrown angery ape?

There is definitely more going on inside this place than just some innocent candle making.

The Doormen

These fine fellows were serving as volunteer doormen for a state government office fundraising event.    The sign on the door would suggest to me that the flanking scarecrows are authorized personnel.  Seasonal employees, most likely.

Skull in the Halloween Tree

"Cuevos!" sang a far voice up the hill.
Inside the graveyard, voices echoed the song.
Leaning against the graveyard walls, some with guitars in their hands or bottles, were the men of the village.
"Cuevos de los Muertos-" sang the faraway voice.
"Cuevos de los Muertos," sang the men in shadows inside the gate.
"Skulls," translated Tom.  "The skulls of the dead."

Electric Trolley Car With Halloween Spirit

It looks like the Electric City's trolley car operators have a seasonal sense of humor.  This electric trolley car pulled into the Lackawanna County stadium station with its Halloween decoration prominently displayed.

Long-eared Scarecrow

This bunny is on duty at Roba's Family Farm, located a few miles outside of Scranton.  Be afraid, crows.  Be very, very afraid.

The Tank in the Intersection

Here's something you don't see every day.  It really is a bit of a shock when you come around the corner and see it for the first time.
